We took the free streetcar to Ybor on embarkation morning, had a Cuban sandwich and a coffee, rode it back, and were on the ship by early afternoon. Cost us nothing but the sandwich. Loved that little streetcar.
just walked over to the aquarium and sparkman wharf, grabbed lunch by the water. didn't even need a car. easy morning before the cruise.
Flew in a day early and did Clearwater Beach with the kids. Worth renting a car for, but know it's a solid 45 min each way. On cruise day we just stayed in Channelside and kept it simple.
Thought I'd nip to Clearwater the morning we boarded. Rookie mistake. Traffic over the bridges both ways ate the whole plan and I was sweating about getting back. Should've saved the beach for the day before.
The heat in July was no joke, but the streetcar and the shade downtown made it manageable. Flat and easy the whole way, which our hips appreciated. Ybor was the highlight, so much character.
