Can you do this cruise port on your own?
Vancouver
DIY Score
Effortless DIY
Walk off into downtown; save the far sights for a longer day.
Tender or Docked?
Docked at Canada Place, right in downtown. Walk off and you are in the city, with Waterfront Station and transit next door.
How to Get Into Town
You are already in town: walk off into downtown. Gastown is 10 min on foot, Stanley Park about 20.
Main Attractions
Stanley Park, Gastown, and Capilano are the big three. Two are a walk; the third has a free shuttle.
How Much Time You Need
A half day covers downtown and Stanley Park. A full day lets you add Capilano or Granville Island.
Keep in Mind
As a homeport, your day is often shorter than it looks. Embarkation or disembarkation timing eats into exploring.
Safety & Comfort
A very safe, first-timer-friendly city. The only area to steer around is the Downtown Eastside.

Because it was our sailing day I was paranoid about time. We only did Gastown and Coal Harbour to stay close, back well before boarding. Wished we had booked a hotel the night before to actually see the city properly.
Took the free Capilano shuttle from Canada Place at 9:30, spent about two hours on the bridges, back downtown by 12:30. Tickets were nearly 80 dollars each though, steep for what it is.
Seawall on rented bikes was the winner with our two. Flat, easy, totem poles, ice cream stops. The little one flaked out halfway but we just looped back. Easiest port day of the whole cruise.
Wandered a couple blocks the wrong way out of Gastown and it got rough fast, lots of people clearly struggling on Hastings. Not dangerous exactly but not what I expected. Just stay on the main streets.
