Can you do this cruise port on your own?
Seattle
DIY Score
Easy DIY
Confirm which pier you sail from; downtown is close either way.
Tender or Docked?
Always docked, at one of two piers that change your day. Pier 66 sits in downtown; Pier 91 is about 4 miles north and needs a cab.
How to Get Into Town
From Pier 66 you walk into downtown in minutes; from Pier 91 it's a 15-min, $15-30 rideshare. Pike Place Market is the anchor for both.
Main Attractions
Pike Place Market, the waterfront, and the Space Needle are the core. All are close to downtown and easy to self-guide.
How Much Time You Need
Half a day sees the core; a full day or extra night does it justice. Downtown's closeness makes even a short window usable.
Keep in Mind
Know your pier before anything else. Pier 66 puts you downtown; Pier 91 is a few miles out with no train, and mixing them up derails your plans.
Safety & Comfort
Safe and very easy for independent visitors. English throughout, reliable rideshare, and a compact walkable core.

We were at Pier 66 and just walked off, up to Pike Place, grabbed coffee and a crab roll, did the waterfront, and were back in under three hours. Didn't spend a dime on transport. Perfect embarkation morning.
rained the whole morning but honestly still nice. ducked into pike place, ate our way through it, watched them throw a fish. good enough for me before boarding.
Booked a hotel downtown then found out we sailed from Pier 91, not 66. Ended up paying for a cab I didn't budget for and the walk with luggage was longer than I wanted. Check your pier, seriously.
That hill from the water up to the market caught me off guard. My knees were not happy. We found the elevator eventually but I'd tell anyone with mobility issues to look it up first.
We always come a day early for Alaska sailings out of Seattle. Did Bainbridge on the ferry this time, totally worth it. Way more relaxing than rushing the city on turnaround day.
