Tender or Docked?
Docked at Pier 27 on the Embarcadero, no tender. Alcatraz Landing (Pier 33) is right next door, and Fisherman's Wharf is about a 10-minute walk.
How to Get Into Town
You dock in the middle of it: Alcatraz Landing is next door, Fisherman's Wharf about 10 minutes on foot. Cable cars are $9 a ride; the Golden Gate Bridge needs a bus or rideshare.

Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, and a cable car ride are the walk-off classics. Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge are the bigger, plan-ahead sights.

You could not ask for a better cruise port location. We walked off at Pier 27 and were at Pier 39 watching the sea lions in about ten minutes. Rode a cable car, had crab at the wharf, and never needed a tour. Easily the most relaxed port morning of the whole cruise.
just walked the embarcadero down to the ferry building, ate my way through the food stalls, walked back. flat and easy the whole way. didnt bother with the hills or the bridge, still had a great day by the water
We finally got out to Alcatraz and then the fog rolled in so thick we could barely see the island from the boat, never mind the skyline behind it. The audio tour through the old cell block was genuinely gripping, but I had my heart set on those postcard bay views and got a wall of grey instead.
Kids were obsessed with the sea lions at Pier 39, we could have stayed there all day. Did one cable car ride which they loved but the queue was long. Brought jackets because someone warned us about the fog and we were glad, it got cold and windy by afternoon in July.
Because it was our disembarkation port we only had the morning. We left the bags with the porters, strolled the wharf and had a coffee looking at the boats, then headed to the airport. So easy having the ship right in the middle of everything, no tender, no long transfer. Gentle way to end the trip.
