Can you do this cruise port on your own?
Rønne
DIY Score
Doable with planning
Do the old town on foot, and plan bus times for Hammershus.
Tender or Docked?
Docked at the Rønne cruise quay, about 1 km from the center. A free shuttle runs, or it is a 20-30 minute walk.
How to Get Into Town
BAT bus to Hammershus, roughly hourly, about a 50-min ride. Single fares are 15 DKK per zone; a day or all-zone card is simpler for a cross-island trip.
Main Attractions
Rønne's old town, Hammershus fortress, and Bornholm's round churches are the headline draws. Only the town is walkable.
How Much Time You Need
4-5 hours covers Rønne and one island sight. Doing more means committing to the bus.
Keep in Mind
Bornholm's buses are slow and infrequent. Check timetables before committing to a far sight.
Safety & Comfort
Very safe and relaxed. Bornholm is a calm, low-crime island.

just did the old town of ronne and honestly it was lovely. yellow and orange houses, cobbles, a coffee in the square. didnt bother trekking across the island and had a really pleasant slow morning.
Made the mistake of assuming the buses were frequent like the mainland. They are not. Waited 40 minutes for a connection and it ate into my Gudhjem time. Beautiful smokehouse village but check the timetable properly, I didnt.
Took the BAT bus to Hammershus, bought an all-zone day card in the app since it crosses a few zones, just under an hour of winding roads. The ruins are free and genuinely impressive on that rock over the sea. The catch is the buses are sparse, roughly hourly, so I planned the return one before I even left. Cut it a bit fine but fine.
We fancied Hammershus but when we saw the bus times and the walking around the ruins we decided against it. Stayed in Rønne, saw the church, sat by the harbour. Sometimes the island sights are just a bit far for a cruise day at our pace.
rented a bike right in town and rode the flat coast paths for a few hours. bornholm is made for it. much better than waiting around for buses if the weather's with you.
