We very nearly booked the ships coach to London until my wife saw the train was an hour and twenty from Southampton Central for a fraction of the money. Taxi to the station, jumped on, and we still had enough left over for a proper lunch. Kicked myself for not clocking it on earlier cruises.
Winchester was the perfect embarkation morning with the kids. Eighteen minutes on the train, saw the cathedral and the Round Table, back in loads of time to board. London would have been a stretch with two under ten.
Tried to wing Stonehenge on the way out and it was more faff than I expected, train to Salisbury then a bus, and nowhere obvious for our bags. Beautiful once there but cutting it fine. Go bag free or book a tour.
had half a morning before boarding so just walked the old town, saw the Titanic memorial and the old walls, grabbed a coffee. didnt go far and honestly it was a nice gentle start.
We came off the ship looking for a bus into town and stood about a good ten minutes like a pair of lemons before a porter told us there isnt one. Felt daft. A taxi sorted us out and after that the trains were dead easy even for us.
