walked the harbour to aker brygge, sat with a coffee watching the boats, wandered up to the fortress for the view. free and lovely. never got on a bus the whole day
Took the little ferry over to Bygdoy for the Kon-Tiki and Fram museums with the kids and they loved the actual ships. Just watch the ferry times, we nearly cut it fine catching the last one back.
Went for the Viking ship museum and only realised at the port it's been closed for years for rebuilding. Wish I'd checked. Pivoted to the National Museum and the Scream, which saved the day, but plan ahead.
Perfect port for us. Flat, walkable, everyone speaks English, benches everywhere to rest. We did the fortress grounds and the waterfront slowly and were back aboard with time to spare.
