Honestly the easiest port of our whole Iceland loop. Walked off, wandered the little rainbow street, did the museum, climbed up to a viewpoint and back. Didn't spend a krona on transport and didn't need to.
We'd booked a rental to do Dynjandi and then the ship announced tendering was delayed for wind. Lost nearly two hours. Made it there and back but I was a wreck watching the clock on that gravel road. Give yourself way more time than the map says.
tiny town but really pretty. sat with a coffee watching the fjord, bought a wool jumper i absolutely did not need. rained then cleared then rained again, classic iceland.
Did the Vigur boat and it was the sweetest thing, puffins everywhere and homemade cake on the island. Gentle, no walking to speak of, back in plenty of time. Perfect for us at our age.
Be warned, our captain skipped Isafjordur entirely because of the swell. We never even got off. Nothing anyone could do but if this is a bucket list port for you, know it's not guaranteed.
