Docked in the middle of Invergordon. You walk off into town, and the train station for Inverness is a flat 10-minute walk from the pier.
How to Get Into Town
Train to Inverness: ~50 min, about £12 each way. A cruise-timed Stagecoach 925 bus also runs direct from the pier to Inverness and on to Urquhart Castle.
Main Attractions
Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle are the headline draw, with Inverness itself and the Culloden battlefield as easier, closer alternatives.
How Much Time You Need
A full port day for Loch Ness; Inverness alone needs about 4-5 hours.
Keep in Mind
Highland trains run only a handful of times a day. Plan your return around the timetable before you leave the ship, not after.

Took the train to Inverness, easy as anything, station is right by the ship. We only had time for the town and a wander by the river but it was a lovely relaxed day. Didn't fancy the faff of getting all the way to Loch Ness and back on the trains.
Missed my planned train back by two minutes and the panic was real. Next one wasn't for over an hour. Made it fine with the buffer but lesson learned, don't cut it fine with Highland trains. They do not run often.
the 2 pound bus to inverness is a total bargain, whole family for next to nothing. kids wanted nessie so we did a short boat cruise. long day and a lot of connections but they loved it. bring a raincoat, it went from sunny to sideways rain in about ten minutes
We booked Urquhart Castle tickets online before the cruise and did Loch Ness by public bus from Inverness. It worked but I'll be honest I was checking the return bus time about ten times. Gorgeous castle though, absolutely worth it if you're organised about it.
Honestly the nicest thing was that the ship is right in the town. My husband tires easily so we just did Invergordon, had a nice lunch, popped in the shops. You don't have to trek to Loch Ness to have a good day here.
