How to Get Into Town
From HafenCity it's a 15-min walk; from other terminals, S-Bahn or shuttle in 10-20 min. A single HVV ticket is €4.10.
Main Attractions
Speicherstadt, Miniatur Wunderland, and the Elbphilharmonie are the big three. All sit within a compact, walkable strip near the water.
How Much Time You Need
5-6 hours is enough for the core. A standard call lets you see the highlights without rushing.
Keep in Mind
Your terminal is the biggest variable. Steinwerder is far out and shuttle-dependent, so plan around it.

We docked at Steinwerder and I hadn't realised how far out it was. The shuttle was fine but I'd budgeted 10 minutes in my head and it was more like 25 each way. Still made it back with time, just factor that in.
Miniatur Wunderland was the whole reason my two wanted to get off the ship and it did not disappoint. Booked the tickets a week before, walked straight in. The kids talked about the tiny airport for the rest of the cruise.
Flat and easy, which after some of the hilly Norwegian ports was a relief. My wife uses a stick and we managed the whole waterfront on foot with plenty of benches to stop at.
Took the S-Bahn from Altona, 4.10 each, into the centre in about 12 minutes. Saw the Rathaus, had lunch near the Alster, back by early afternoon. Smooth as anything.
honestly just walked from HafenCity into Speicherstadt and pottered around the canals for the morning. didnt pay for anything. lovely red brick everywhere and a good coffee by the water. thats it, thats the day.
