Easy DIY
Take the DART into Dublin, but leave a wide margin for the tender back.
Tender or Docked?
Always tendered. Ships anchor out in Dublin Bay and ferry you to St Michael's Pier in the harbour, so factor in a boat ride each way.
How to Get Into Town
DART to Dublin: ~20 min, about €2.50 each way with a Leap card. Trains run every 10-15 minutes from a station five minutes' walk from the pier.
Main Attractions
Dublin's core is a 20-minute train away: Trinity College, the Book of Kells, and the Guinness Storehouse. Or stay local for the harbour piers and Sandycove.
How Much Time You Need
Half a day is enough for central Dublin. With a normal 9-10 hour call you can see the city and still stroll the piers.
Keep in Mind
The tender is the whole ballgame here. Everyone rides a boat ashore and back, so the return queue, not the DART, is your real time risk.
Safety & Comfort
One of the easier ports in Europe for a solo cruiser. English-speaking, safe, and simple to navigate.

We didn’t fancy the city so we just did the East Pier and had tea in the town. My knees were grateful. Watching the ships anchored out in the bay from the bandstand was lovely, and we were back aboard in no time.
honestly just wandered dun laoghaire, got chips, walked the pier. never even went into dublin and no regrets
Much smoother than I expected for a tender port. The DART does all the work. If you’ve done Dublin before, stay local and enjoy the harbour instead.
The Guinness Storehouse queue ate our whole morning because we didn’t pre-book. Lesson learned. By the time we got out we barely had time for lunch before heading back for the tender.
Tender ashore at 9:20, on the 9:41 DART, standing outside Trinity by 10:15. Came back on the 2:50 train and still had a 40 min tender wait, so don’t cut it fine.
Kids loved the DART more than the actual sights tbh. We did Trinity, then let them run around at the pier while we had a pint at the yacht club end. Long day but a good one.
