Tender or Docked?

Docked, but the terminal decides your day. Most ships tie up at the central PTA pier a short walk from town, while some larger ships use IJmuiden, 40 km out.

How to Get Into Town

From PTA: a 20-min walk or 1-hour tram ticket for EUR 3.40. From IJmuiden it is bus 382 to Sloterdijk then a train, about 45-60 min door to door.

Main Attractions

The big three: Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and the Anne Frank House. A canal cruise and a wander through the Jordaan round out a classic day.

How Much Time You Need

A half day covers the highlights from PTA. With a longer or overnight call you can add a museum and a canal cruise at an easy pace.

Keep in Mind

Book the big museums well ahead. Van Gogh and Anne Frank House sell online-only and routinely sell out days or weeks in advance.

Safety & Comfort

Very safe and easy for independent visitors. English is near-universal and transit is simple; the main risks are pickpockets and bike traffic.
