Rented a car at the port and did the full loop: Godafoss, then Myvatn, the mud pots at Hverir, a soak at the Nature Baths and back through Husavik. Left at 8:30, back by 4. Best value day of the whole cruise, the four of us split the car.
Took the kids to Myvatn on a tour. The lava formations at Dimmuborgir were like another planet and they loved it. Only downside was the flies by the lake in July, absolutely relentless, my youngest spent half of it hiding in her hood.
lovely little town, walked off the ship and it's right there. saw the church, wandered the main street, had the best cinnamon bun of my life. didnt do any of the big nature stuff and was perfectly happy
Assumed there would be regular buses to Myvatn like at home. There aren't. We waited around and the timing just didn't work with the ship, so we gave up and did Godafoss on the 79 instead. Which was lovely, but not what we planned.
