Tender or Docked?

Usually docked, then a short shuttle through the working port to the gate. Walking the pier is discouraged for safety.

How to Get Into Town

Shuttle to the port gate, then taxis for everything else. Dune 7 is 15-20 min (N$100-250); Swakopmund about 35 min (N$300-400).

Main Attractions

Flamingo lagoon and Dune 7 by taxi, or the dunes-meet-sea drama of Sandwich Harbour by 4x4. Choose a DIY day or a guided desert day.

How Much Time You Need

A full call covers the lagoon and Dune 7, or one desert tour. Sandwich Harbour needs most of the day and tide-timed planning.

Keep in Mind

Sandwich Harbour is guided-4x4 only. Tides, soft sand and no cell service make self-driving genuinely dangerous, and access needs a permit and a licensed operator.

Safety & Comfort

Calm and safe by day, with desert conditions the real risk. Petty crime is low; heat, sand and tides deserve respect.

Tips from Cruisers

"We just grabbed a taxi at the gate, agreed a price for a few hours, and did the lagoon then Dune 7. The flamingos alone were worth…" — by Brian S.
