Can you do this cruise port on your own?
Pointe-a-Pitre
DIY Score
Easy DIY
Walk to the markets and Memorial ACTe; agree taxi fares before the beach.
Tender or Docked?
Docked at the Saint-John Perse terminal, a 10-15 min walk from the center. You step off onto the pier and walk into town on flat ground.
How to Get Into Town
The center is a flat, free 10-15 min walk from the terminal. Beaches and nature need a KARU'LIS bus, a taxi, or a rental car.
Main Attractions
Memorial ACTe and the covered spice market are the walkable stars; the beaches are the taxi-ride prize. Do the town on foot, then decide on a beach.
How Much Time You Need
3-4 hours for the town and museum; a full call to add a beach. Sort transport before you commit to the sand.
Keep in Mind
Taxis are unmetered and pricey. Always agree the fare before getting in, and arrange your return so you are not stranded at a beach.
Safety & Comfort
Manageable with normal city awareness. The main friction is language and taxi pricing, not personal danger, but keep your guard up downtown.

The town felt a bit rough and my school French was not up to it. We got a bit lost and a couple of streets near the market were not the nicest. Made it to the cathedral in the end but wouldnt rush back.
I wasnt expecting much from the museum but the Memorial ACTe stopped me in my tracks. We spent almost the whole morning there. Walked back slow through the market after, bought some vanilla, still thinking about the exhibits days later.
We hired a car and drove over to the green side for the botanical garden. Long-ish drive but so worth it and much cheaper than the ship tour. Just watch the narrow roads.
Taxi to Le Gosier, driver quoted 25 euros and I made sure to book him for the pickup at 2pm too. Glad I did, there was nothing waiting when we wanted to leave. Nice little beach though.
just did the market and the square and had a rum at a cafe. the wife wanted a beach but honestly the town was enough for a few hours for me
