Tender or Docked?

Ships dock at one of two terminal areas in San Juan. Which pier you get changes your morning: Old San Juan piers are right in the action; the Pan American Pier is a short taxi ride away.

How to Get Into Town

Old San Juan piers: walk straight into the historic district. From the Pan American Pier, a fixed-zone taxi is $10 and takes 10 min.

Main Attractions

El Morro fortress and a walk through Old San Juan's streets are the core independent-cruiser experience. El Yunque requires planning and pre-arranged transport.

How Much Time You Need

4-5 hours covers Old San Juan thoroughly. Adding El Yunque means most of a 9-10 hr call.

Keep in Mind

Uber cannot pick you up inside El Yunque National Forest. If you go independently without pre-arranged transport, you may be stuck without a way out.

Safety & Comfort

Old San Juan is safe for tourists with normal city awareness. The tourist district is well-patrolled and active during daytime hours.

Tips from Cruisers

"The mofongo at Barrachina was exactly as good as everyone says. We spent the whole morning walking the old city walls and the fort…" — by Maria C.
