Can you do this cruise port on your own?
Oranjestad
DIY Score
Effortless DIY
Docked downtown, with the best beaches 10-15 min away by fixed-rate taxi.
Tender or Docked?
Ships dock at the Aruba Port Authority terminal. No tendering. The pier is steps from downtown Oranjestad.
How to Get Into Town
Walk out of the pier gate and you are in Oranjestad. Downtown is about a 5-minute walk. The Lloyd G. Smith Boulevard waterfront is directly in front of you.
Main Attractions
Eagle Beach, consistently ranked among the top beaches in the world, is a $12-15 taxi ride from the pier. Oranjestad's compact downtown, Fort Zoutman, and the colorful Dutch buildings are all walkable. ATV tours and wreck snorkeling are easily booked independently.
How Much Time You Need
An 8-hour call covers downtown shopping plus a full beach morning at Eagle or Palm Beach. For a 6-hour call, pick one: beach day or downtown exploration.
Keep in Mind
Aruba is sunny and windy year-round. The trade winds keep temperatures manageable but make some water activities (kitesurfing, kayaking) choppier on the windward side. The leeward beaches are the right choice for calm swimming.
Safety & Comfort
Aruba is one of the safest destinations in the Caribbean. Crime targeting tourists is rare. The island is outside the hurricane belt and sees consistently good weather.

The trade winds make Aruba comfortable even in August. We had come from a week in Barbados where the humidity was oppressive, and Aruba felt like an air conditioner had been turned on. The wind makes the northern beaches rougher though — Eagle Beach on the leeward side is the right call for swimming.
The government rate card at the pier taxi stand is genuine — take a photo of it before you get in a cab so you know what you should pay. Eagle Beach is on it for $12. If a driver quotes you more, walk to the next one.
We skipped the ship beach excursion to Eagle Beach — they wanted $75 per person. Took a taxi for $14 for the two of us. Same beach, same chairs, rental was $20 each instead of included. Still saved $90 total. Beach was absolutely perfect.
