Can you do this cruise port on your own?
Kralendijk
DIY Score
Effortless DIY
Bring reef-safe sunscreen and water shoes; the best of Bonaire is underwater.
Tender or Docked?
Docked right in town. You walk off the pier straight onto the Kralendijk waterfront, no tender and no shuttle.
How to Get Into Town
Town is a 2-5 minute walk, free. You are docked in the center of Kralendijk, so there is nothing to arrange.
Main Attractions
Snorkeling and diving are the main draw, but not the only one. Klein Bonaire, the shore reefs, and Washington Slagbaai are the headline options, with the salt flats, wildlife, and a walkable town for non-swimmers.
How Much Time You Need
A half day covers most of it. Because you dock in town, even a short call gives you real beach or snorkel time.
Keep in Mind
You need a marine park nature fee to enter the water. Bonaire charges a STINAPA Nature Fee for all in-water activity, so buy it yourself before you get in.
Safety & Comfort
Calm and easygoing. Kralendijk is a relaxed port where normal common sense is enough.

We've done a lot of Caribbean stops and Bonaire is the one where you literally step off and you're already there. Grabbed the water taxi to Klein Bonaire, snorkeled for a couple hours, back in plenty of time. Nothing stressful about it.
My knees are not what they were so we skipped the 1000 Steps place (it is exactly what it sounds like) and stayed near town. Sat by Wilhelmina Park, watched the boats, had a nice lunch. Perfect low key day for us.
Took a taxi to 1000 Steps around 9:30, paid $30, driver came back for us at noon. Water was gorgeous but that staircase in the heat carrying gear is no joke on the way up.
honestly just rented snorkel gear near the pier and got in the water right off town. saw a turtle within 20 mins. didnt even bother with a taxi
Brought the kids to Klein Bonaire and it was the right call, calm shallow water so the little one could actually see fish. We did have to buy the nature fee thing which caught us off guard, nobody mentioned it beforehand.
