Main Attractions
Peggy's Cove's lighthouse perched on ocean-worn granite is one of Canada's most photographed scenes. In Halifax itself, the Citadel fort and the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic are both worth the time.
How Much Time You Need
7+ hours fits Peggy's Cove and Halifax waterfront comfortably. A shorter call still makes for a good day in the city alone.
Keep in Mind
No public bus goes to Peggy's Cove. If that's your goal, you need a rental car, a taxi, or a booked tour.

We walked the entire downtown loop — waterfront, Citadel Hill, Spring Garden Road, back down the hill to the pier — in about 4 hours at a relaxed pace with stops. Flat enough that my mother (75, uses a cane) managed the waterfront section comfortably. The Citadel itself involves a hill but has a road up, not just stairs.
I did the Hop-On Hop-Off trolley for $35 and thought it was worth it for orientation. Did one full loop first to see the whole city, then got off at the Citadel. The live cannon firing at noon is genuinely loud — stand back if you are not expecting it.
The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic has a genuine Titanic gallery with recovered artifacts and a very moving exhibition. We spent two hours there. Combined with the Citadel it made a full morning. The boardwalk between them is lovely even if it rains — and it does rain in Halifax.
