Usually tendered, straight into the center. With no deep-water cruise berth, ships anchor in the outer harbor and ferry you to the town quay, steps from everything.
How to Get Into Town
You tender straight into town, free on foot. Shell Beach is a 10-15 min walk; St Jean is a short taxi or rental hop.
Main Attractions
Gustavia's harbor, Shell Beach, and Fort Gustav are all walkable; St Jean is the easy taxi add. Most cruisers stay on foot and swim.
How Much Time You Need
3-4 hours is plenty. The island is tiny, so town plus a beach is an easy, unhurried day.
Keep in Mind
Taxis are pricey and limited. For anything beyond the walkable town and Shell Beach, agree fares first or rent a car.
Safety & Comfort
One of the safest, most relaxed ports in the Caribbean. Crime is very low and the town is easy to enjoy alone.

tendered right into town and just wandered the harbor looking at the ridiculous yachts. walked over to shell beach for a swim after. didnt spend a cent and it was one of my favourite days
Rented a mini-moke for the day, drove over to St Jean and then round to Gouverneur. Roads are steep but short. Back for the 4:30 tender no problem. Way better than paying per taxi.
For a tender port this one is painless, you land right in the middle of everything. We climbed up to the old fort for the photo everyone takes and were back down in 20 minutes.
We kept it easy. Coffee on the quay, a slow look at the shops, and a sit at Shell Beach. The little steps down to the sand were the only tricky bit for me. Beautiful spot.
