Tender or Docked?

Docked at Colon 2000, a secure terminal with a duty-free mall. You walk off by gangway, but do not walk out into the city.

How to Get Into Town

Agua Clara locks are a ~20-min taxi, roughly $30-50 per party round trip with wait. There is no safe walk into town, so a taxi or tour is required.

Main Attractions

Agua Clara canal locks are the headline, with Portobelo's colonial forts for a longer day. Both are reached by taxi.

How Much Time You Need

4-5 hours covers the locks comfortably. Add most of the day for Portobelo.

Keep in Mind

Do not walk into Colón city. Stay in the terminal or travel by taxi or tour only.

Safety & Comfort

The port area is secure, but the city is not. This is the main thing to plan around.

Tips from Cruisers

"I'll be honest, the warnings about not leaving the port on foot had me nervous. We took a taxi straight to Agua Clara, driver wait…" — by Susan M.
