Usually docked at Mahogany Bay (now called Isla Tropicale). Walk off via gangway, through the port shopping complex, and out the main gate to find taxis.
How to Get Into Town
Taxi to West Bay Beach: ~15-20 min, ~$10-15 per person each way. Negotiate the fare before you get in; there are no meters.
Main Attractions
West Bay Beach is the headline draw: white sand, clear water, and a living coral reef you can snorkel from shore. West End adds dive shops, cold drinks, and a more local scene about 20 minutes farther west.
How Much Time You Need
7+ hours gives you a full beach day. Even a 5-6 hour call is workable if you head straight to West Bay.
Keep in Mind
Always agree on the taxi fare before you get in. Taxis at Roatan have no meters, and the price is set by negotiation.
Safety & Comfort
Roatan is safe in tourist zones. The Bay Islands have a much lower crime rate than mainland Honduras and Roatan is consistently rated among the safer Caribbean cruise ports.

Followed the exit signs past the compound shops and found the independent taxis at the main gate, just like the guide said. Negotiated $13 per person to West Bay. Driver handed us his card and said to call when ready to come back. He answered first ring. The system works exactly as described once you know where the gate is.
We walked to West End for the dive shops and had a better time than West Bay honestly. Less resort feel, better food prices, dive shops everywhere. The reef there is just as good. Water taxi back to West Bay for $3 and then taxi to the ship at the end. A bit more complex but the more interesting day.
My husband wanted to stay in the port the whole time but I talked him into getting a taxi to West Bay. We negotiated $12 each way with the first driver at the gate, 15 minutes later we were on that beach. I snorkeled for two hours and saw more fish than I expected that close to shore. He admits I was right.
