Can you do this cruise port on your own?
Phuket
DIY Score
Doable with planning
Use Grab or Bolt, agree every fare first, and skip the jet-skis.
Tender or Docked?
It depends on the season. Ships often tender to Patong Beach in the dry months and dock at the deep-sea port during the monsoon.
How to Get Into Town
From the deep-sea port, a car to Patong is 45 min, about 800-1,000 THB. Phuket Town is a closer 20-minute ride.
Main Attractions
Patong Beach and Phuket Old Town are the easy DIY pair. Big Buddha and the island boat trips are the bigger outings.
How Much Time You Need
A half day covers a beach and the old town. Add Big Buddha and you will use most of a standard call.
Keep in Mind
Transport is the whole challenge here. Use a ride-hailing app and agree every non-app fare in advance.
Safety & Comfort
Safe from serious crime, but scam-heavy around transport and water sports. Awareness matters more than fear.

The taxi guys at the deep sea port quoted us double what Grab showed on my phone. Ended up walking down the road a bit to meet a Grab driver like the app said. Saved a fortune but it's annoying you have to play that game to not get fleeced.
We got Grab everywhere. Deep sea port to old town was about 350 baht, spent the morning on Thalang Road with the coffee shops and street art, then Grab to Big Buddha. Book the return car before you go up the hill, the drivers up there will not use a meter.
Big Buddha is worth it but there are steps and it's hot as anything. We took it slow, plenty of water, and had a car waiting. My wife found the heat harder than the walking honestly.
Tendered right onto Patong which was brilliant with the kids, no faff, straight onto the sand. Just be firm with the water sports touts, we said no to the jet skis after reading about the scam and had a lovely calm beach day instead.
honestly phuket old town surprised me. skipped the beaches entirely, just wandered the colourful streets, ate amazing noodles for almost nothing. the transport is a headache but grab sorts it. lovely relaxed few hours
