Can you do this cruise port on your own?
Naha
DIY Score
Easy DIY
Central Naha is taxi-easy; anything outside town needs a plan for getting back.
Tender or Docked?
Ships dock at Naha New Port. The Yui Rail monorail's Miebashi Station is one stop from the port station, connecting to Kokusai Street in 15 min and Shuri Castle in 25 min.
How to Get Into Town
Kokusai Street is 15 min by monorail (2 stops). Shuri Castle is 25 min. Taxis are metered and reliable for destinations beyond the monorail.
Main Attractions
Kokusai Street, Shuri Castle, and Okinawa World are the three main independent options. Shuri Castle is partially reconstructed following the 2019 fire; the main hall is targeted for completion in autumn 2026.
How Much Time You Need
Kokusai Street fills 2-3 hrs. Shuri Castle takes 2-3 hrs. Okinawa World requires 3-4 hrs plus transit.
Keep in Mind
Shuri Castle is partially open during reconstruction. The main hall (Seiden) burned in 2019; the outer grounds, gates, and some inner structures are open. Full reopening of the main hall is targeted for autumn 2026.
Safety & Comfort
Naha is extremely safe by any standard. Japan's safety record applies fully in Okinawa; petty crime is exceptionally rare.

Took the monorail to Kokusai Street, spent an hour and a half shopping and eating Okinawa soba, then walked up to Shuri Castle. The construction made some parts unavailable but it was still remarkable just to see the site. Monorail back to the port. Perfect half-day.
