How to Get Into Town
TRA train Keelung to Taipei Main Station: ~44-51 min, NT$41-64 each way. Trains run every ~20 minutes throughout the day.
Main Attractions
The CKS Memorial Hall and Liberty Square, Taipei 101, and Ximending are the main Taipei draws. Jiufen's hillside old street, 50-60 minutes from Keelung by bus, is an equally popular alternative.
How Much Time You Need
8+ hours for a comfortable Taipei day. On a 9-10 hour call, you will have about 6 hours in Taipei after transit, enough for two or three attractions if they are well-chosen and close to each other.

We had been nervous about navigating Taipei but it was so much easier than we expected. We bought our EasyCards at the station, jumped on the TRA train, and were at Taipei Main Station in 45 minutes. The MRT from there took us to the CKS Memorial Hall. Watched the guard change, walked Liberty Square, had lunch near Ximending. One of the smoothest independent port days of the whole cruise.
We'd already been to Taipei twice, so we did Jiufen instead. Took the 788 bus from Keelung Station, arrived in about an hour, wandered the lanes for three hours, had tea in one of the traditional tea houses looking out at the coast. It was beautiful and very calming. Back at the ship by 3pm and completely relaxed.
