Can you do this cruise port on your own?
Moorea
DIY Score
Doable with planning
Pre-book a rental car or lagoon tour; neither tender landing is a town.
Tender or Docked?
Usually tendered, to a small dock with no town center. Ships anchor in a bay and ferry you to a pier lined with tour and rental booths.
How to Get Into Town
Neither tender landing has a real town center, so wheels or a tour are essential. Rentals and 4x4 trips wait at the pier; taxis are pricey.
Main Attractions
The lagoon and the Belvedere lookout are the two must-dos; the public beaches are the easy self-drive option. Water tours are the heart of a Moorea day.
How Much Time You Need
A full call to do it justice. With transport sorted, a small island offers a lot; without it, your day is very limited.
Keep in Mind
Arrange transport before you tender in. There is no town at the dock and rentals and tours can sell out on a busy call.
Safety & Comfort
One of the safest ports anywhere. Crime is minimal; the challenges are logistics and the heat, not personal safety.

We assumed wed sort something at the dock but the cars were gone and the taxi wanted an eye watering amount. Ended up not seeing much beyond a beach near the pier. Wish wed organised it beforehand.
We booked a lagoon tour at one of the little booths right off the tender and it was the best few hours of the whole cruise. Standing in waist deep water with stingrays gliding round your legs, the water this impossible blue. I keep thinking about it.
honestly just wanted a beach and a swim. rented a scooter, buzzed round to a quiet spot, snorkelled off the sand. didnt do any of the big tours and had a perfect lazy day
Reserved a hire car online weeks before. Drove the ring road, stopped at Temae beach, up to the Belvedere for the twin bay view. Half the cost of the ship tours and we went where we liked. Just book the car early, they run out.
Took the 4x4 tour so we didnt have to drive. Bumpy up to Magic Mountain but the guide was lovely and the views were something else. Being tendered was fine, though the queue back after lunch was a bit long.
