There is no ad-hoc taxi stand at the Costa Maya pier for Chacchoben or Bacalar. Unlike most Caribbean ports, taxis do not line up at the gate waiting for individual passengers to Chacchoben or Bacalar. Royal Caribbean has announced plans for a new private port development near Costa Maya called Perfect Day Mexico. This development is planned for the Mahahual area. Depending on construction timing, access to Mahahual village or beach areas adjacent to the pier may be affected. Check current status before your port day; if the development is active, Mahahual access may be restricted or redirected.

Food and drink inside the port complex carries resort-level prices. A beer inside the complex can cost $7-10 USD; the same beer in Mahahual is $2-3 USD. If you plan to stay in the complex area for the day, bringing snacks from the ship or walking to Mahahual for meals saves significantly.
