tendered in, walked the waterfront to paihia, hopped the little ferry over to russell for a coffee and a wander. cheap as chips and so pretty. back on the tender mid afternoon, no drama
We did the Hole in the Rock boat and I spent the back half of it watching the clock. The operator got us back fine but with a tender port and a boat trip stacked together you really do need to leave margin. Beautiful cruise though, dolphins and all.
Kids loved the war canoe and the carvings at Waitangi, and there's a beach right in Paihia for them to run off steam after. Easy family day, everything close, no big drives. Just the tender queue at the end tested their patience.
Fifty dollars each for the Treaty Grounds felt steep and we nearly skipped it, but it's the actual founding place of the country so we went in and were glad. Just know the good stuff here isn't all free, budget for it.
