Walk off the ship directly into Cadiz old town: 2-5 minutes, free. For Seville, it's a 90-minute train journey from Cadiz station.
Main Attractions
Seville is the big draw: Alcazar, cathedral, and Plaza de Espana. Cadiz itself rewards anyone who stays, with a beautiful old town, a rooftop cathedral tower, and the best seafood in Andalusia.
How Much Time You Need
9+ hours ideal for Seville; Cadiz city works on any call length. The train alone takes 3 hours round trip, so the port call determines which option is realistic.
Keep in Mind
The Alcazar sells out consistently in peak season. Book 2-3 weeks ahead at minimum, or the main reason to go to Seville disappears.

Both Cadiz and Seville are safe and relaxed. Standard city precautions apply; pickpocket risk is low by Spanish standards.

We took the 8:50am train to Seville, did the Alcazar first thing (we had 9:30am tickets), then walked to the cathedral and had lunch near Plaza de Espana. Caught the 3:40pm train back. It was tight but it worked. The Alcazar was worth the planning, genuinely.
Decided not to bother with Seville and just explored Cadiz. Honestly no regrets. The old town is beautiful and it was basically empty because everyone else was on the cruise tour to Seville. Had amazing seafood for lunch.
Fourth time calling at Cadiz. Always do Seville. Always worth it. Just buy the train tickets and Alcazar tickets the moment you know the port date.
We missed the return train by about 10 minutes. Had to get a taxi from Seville back to the ship which cost about 120 euros. Completely our fault, we overstayed at the Alcazar gardens, but please watch the time more carefully than we did.
