Usually docked at Stazione Marittima, in the city centre. You walk off onto the waterfront, about five minutes from Piazza Unita d'Italia.
How to Get Into Town
You walk into Trieste in about 5 minutes, free. For Slovenia, a scheduled bus or a booked GoOpti shuttle reaches Piran in roughly 1-1.5 hours.
Main Attractions
Trieste's grand square, then Slovenia: Piran, Koper or the Postojna caves. The city and Miramare fit any call; the border trips reward a plan.
How Much Time You Need
A relaxed half-day covers Trieste, but the city easily fills a full day too. A cross-border trip into Slovenia uses the whole call.
Keep in Mind
There is no direct bus to Piran. Public routes go via Koper with a change and take about 1.5 hours, so book a shuttle if you want one clean ride.

Underrated stop. Docked right at the main piazza, no shuttle nonsense. Did Miramare on the number 6 bus in the morning and Koper in the afternoon. Two countries in one day and barely broke a sweat.
Booked a GoOpti shuttle to Piran the night before, about 18 euros each, picked us up near the port at 8:45 and had us there by 10. Wandered the old town, seafood lunch by the water, back by 3:30. Bring your passport, they do check sometimes.
Took the kids to Postojna cave on a booked transfer. The little train into the cave was the highlight of the whole cruise for them, they still talk about it. Bring a jacket, it is about 10 degrees down there even in July.
Tried to do Piran on the public bus to save money. Big faff. Had to change in Koper, waited 40 minutes for a connection, and nearly missed it coming back. Lovely town but I would just pay for the direct shuttle next time.
didnt bother leaving trieste in the end. huge square right off the ship, sat with a coffee for an hour, walked up to the roman theatre, easy. sometimes the port itself is enough
