Sete's canals and Les Halles market, or a quick train to Montpellier. Mont Saint-Clair crowns the town with a view.
How Much Time You Need
A few hours cover Sete; a full call adds Montpellier easily. The train is quick, so time pressure is low.
Keep in Mind
Carcassonne is a stretch too far. It is 1.5-2 hours each way by train, leaving too little margin for a cruise day.

walked off into the canals in about eight minutes, had oysters and picpoul by the water, watched the fishing boats. never went further and it was one of my favourite lazy port days
Train to Montpellier was seven euros and 18 minutes, ran constantly. Did the old town, back in Sete by mid afternoon. So easy I almost felt guilty skipping the ship’s tour.
Made the mistake of trying for Carcassonne. Spent hours on trains and only got a rushed look before turning straight back. Wish we’d just enjoyed Sete and Montpellier like everyone said.
We took the bus up Mont Saint-Clair rather than the climb, thank goodness. The view over the lagoon and sea was superb. Flat and easy back down in the town after.
