Can you do this cruise port on your own?
Ajaccio
DIY Score
Easy DIY
Walk the old town and Napoleon sites; add a beach or boat.
Tender or Docked?
Usually docked at Quai l'Herminier, beside the center. When the pier is full, some ships anchor and tender you to the same quay.
How to Get Into Town
The old town is a 5-10 min walk, free. Local buses (EUR 1.50) reach the beaches and Sanguinaires road if you want to go further.
Main Attractions
Napoleon's Ajaccio on foot: Maison Bonaparte, Place Foch and the old town. Add a beach or a Sanguinaires boat trip for the sea.
How Much Time You Need
3-4 hours does the old town and Napoleon sites. Add a few hours for a beach or a boat trip to the Sanguinaires.
Keep in Mind
Maison Bonaparte is closed on Mondays and shuts for lunch (roughly 12:30-1:15). Time your visit if the Napoleon house is a priority.
Safety & Comfort
Very safe and low-hassle. Ajaccio is a relaxed small city with little scam or pickpocket concern; normal awareness is enough.

We were docked right in town and just strolled off to Maison Bonaparte in about fifteen minutes. Lovely little museum, and the old town around it is all cafes and washing lines. Easily one of the most relaxed port days we've had.
just wandered the old town, grabbed some corsican charcuterie at the market and sat by the harbour. didnt spend a euro on transport. proper easy day
Flat and gentle for the most part, which suited us fine. We did the little tourist train because the legs weren't up to the hills, and it gave a nice overview toward those red islands. Napoleon house was shut though, we forgot it's closed Mondays.
Booked the Sanguinaires boat at a kiosk on the quay for about 45 euro, three hour trip with a swim stop, back with an hour before all aboard. Check the return time carefully, ours cut it closer than I'd have liked.
Ship was tendering the day we went so there was a bit of a wait, but once ashore it was a five minute walk to everything. Kids swam at the town beach and we had ice cream on the square. Simple and good.
