Can you do this cruise port on your own?
Mykonos
DIY Score
Doable with planning
Budget 30-45 min each way for the tender, and know your bus station.
Tender or Docked?
Often tendered; smaller ships may dock at Tourlos. Ships that anchor ferry passengers to the Old Port by tender boat; expect 30-45 minutes of wait in peak summer season.
How to Get Into Town
Tender to Old Port: 10-15 min crossing + queue time. The Old Town begins right at the dock. Beach buses from Fabrika station take 15-30 min and cost €1.50-2.50.
Main Attractions
Mykonos Town's Old Town lanes, windmills, and Little Venice are the core of the day. Beach clubs at Paradise or Platis Gialos are the second option for those after sun and sea rather than sightseeing.
How Much Time You Need
7-8 hours works for Mykonos Town and one beach. Subtract tender time (30-45 min each way) and you have 5-6 usable hours ashore.
Keep in Mind
The tender queue before all-aboard is the biggest risk. Budget more time than you think you need to get back to the ship.
Safety & Comfort
Mykonos is very safe and tourist-oriented. The main practical issue is prices, not safety.

The tender queue coming back nearly did us in. We left Paradise Beach at 3pm thinking we had plenty of time and got to the dock to find a huge line. Made it but only just. Leave earlier than you think you need to.
My kids wanted Paradise Beach. We got the Fabrika bus, it was easy, and the beach was exactly what they hoped for. The loungers were pricey but they'd saved up. Good day for them. I sat in the shade and read.
Spent the whole day in the Old Town, didn't bother with any beach. Honestly just wandered for hours, found a good lunch in one of the back alleys, sat in a square for a while. No regrets. Mykonos Town is enough on its own if you're not chasing beach clubs.
We tried to take a taxi to Platis Gialos. Waited 20 minutes and couldn't get one. Ended up walking back to the bus station and getting the KTEL bus. Wish we'd just done that first.
