Can you do this cruise port on your own?
Haifa
DIY Score
Doable with planning
Choose between Jerusalem and Nazareth; attempting both on one call is too much.
Tender or Docked?
Ships dock at Haifa Port's cruise terminal. The Haifa Center-HaShmona train station is a 2-minute walk, putting the whole country within relatively easy reach.
How to Get Into Town
Train station 2 min from ship. Jerusalem by train: ~1h 45min-2h, ~42 NIS (~$12). Nazareth by bus: ~50 min, ~25-50 NIS (~$7-13). Akko by train: ~25 min, ~16 NIS (~$5).
Main Attractions
Jerusalem's Old City, Nazareth's holy sites, and Haifa's Baha'i Gardens are the three main draws. None can be combined in a single cruise day.
How Much Time You Need
Jerusalem needs 10+ hours. Nazareth or Akko work well on 8-9 hour calls. Haifa city alone fills a relaxed 7-8 hour day.
Keep in Mind
Jerusalem in half a day is an experience, not an exploration. The 2-hour journey each way leaves roughly 4-6 hours in the Old City, which is not much for one of the most complex and meaningful cities on earth.
Safety & Comfort
Tourist areas in Israel are generally safe, though the regional political situation warrants checking your government's current travel advisory before the cruise.

We went to Akko instead of Jerusalem. Best decision. The Crusader tunnels were extraordinary, the old city was atmospheric, and we were back at the ship by 3pm with no stress at all. Nobody ever tells you about Akko on a cruise, but it is genuinely remarkable.
We took the train to Jerusalem and had about 5 hours in the Old City. It was enough to visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Western Wall. Not enough to feel we understood the place, but deeply moving. We knew we would be rushing back to the ship. Go knowing that, and it is still worth every minute.
