Usually docked at the Muelle Gran Terminal Maritimo in Callao. The immediate port area is industrial; do not wander into Callao independently.
How to Get Into Town
Uber to Miraflores: ~30-60 min, ~$12-18 USD (50-70 soles). Do not use unlicensed street taxis; use Uber or Cabify only.
Main Attractions
The Miraflores Malecon is a clifftop park above the Pacific where paragliders launch from the edge and the views run to the horizon. The food scene here is the real draw: Lima is consistently ranked among the world's best cities to eat.
How Much Time You Need
7+ hours covers Miraflores well. Anything under 5 hours is tight once transit time is accounted for.

Never get in an unmarked street taxi in Lima. Use Uber or Cabify exclusively for all transport.
Safety & Comfort
Miraflores and Barranco are safe for independent visitors. The Callao port area and Lima Historic Center require more active awareness.

Do not let the distance from Miraflores put you off Lima. The food scene there is world class — we had a ceviche lunch that was genuinely one of the best meals I have eaten anywhere. Book a restaurant in advance. The ship's excursion included a mediocre buffet. We spent half as much and ate far better.
Huaca Pucllana in Miraflores was a complete surprise. An ancient pyramid site right in the middle of a modern neighborhood. We spent 90 minutes there and had it nearly to ourselves. Entry is about $5 USD. Much easier than doing the Larco Museum since it is right in the tourist district.
We booked a driver through our hotel in Miraflores before the cruise and had him meet us at the port gate. $80 for the day, two of us. He took us to Miraflores for the cliffside park and lunch, then Barranco for the afternoon. Much less stressful than trying to arrange something at the pier.
