Can you do this cruise port on your own?
Buenos Aires
DIY Score
Easy DIY
Pick two or three neighborhoods and go deep; rushing between all four exhausts the day.
Tender or Docked?
Ships dock at Puerto Madero, walking distance from the city waterfront. The gangway leads into a modern terminal with taxis and Uber pick-up directly outside.
How to Get Into Town
Walk to Puerto Madero waterfront in 5 minutes, or Uber to San Telmo in 15 min for under $5 USD. Buenos Aires is one of the most accessible big-city ports in South America.
Main Attractions
San Telmo, Recoleta Cemetery, and La Boca's Caminito are the classic cruiser circuit. Palermo adds parks and restaurants for those with more time.
How Much Time You Need
8+ hours is comfortable for two or three neighborhoods. A shorter call works well if you focus on San Telmo and Puerto Madero alone.
Keep in Mind
Buenos Aires is a big city with far-flung neighborhoods. Every taxi or Uber ride between areas eats 20-30 minutes; plan your geography before you leave the ship.
Safety & Comfort
Buenos Aires is a manageable city for independent cruisers during the day, with petty theft the main concern rather than serious crime in tourist areas.

San Telmo on a Sunday is special. The market fills the whole street, there's a tango performance in the plaza, food stalls everywhere. I just picked a spot and watched people for a while. Used Uber for everything and had no issues at all.
The Recoleta Cemetery took me by surprise - I wasn't expecting to spend 90 minutes wandering marble avenues. Eva Peron's grave is surprisingly modest compared to some of the other family mausoleums. Worth the taxi ride over from San Telmo.
