Can I do this cruise port on my own?
Le Havre
DIY Score
Doable with planning
Book Paris trains weeks ahead; morning departures sell out fast on busy ship days.
Tender or Docked?
Ships dock directly at Terminal Croisières Le Havre. No tender. The city center and the train station still require a shuttle or taxi from the pier.
How to Get Into Town
Train to Paris: 2h05, from ~€17 each way. Taxi from the terminal to Gare du Havre costs €10 fixed; book SNCF tickets weeks ahead for the best prices and guaranteed seats.
Main Attractions
Paris is the headline pull from Le Havre, but Honfleur's medieval harbor and Rouen's cathedral are excellent half-day alternatives with far less transit.
How Much Time You Need
Paris works on a 10+ hour call if the trains are pre-booked. Honfleur and Rouen fit comfortably into anything from 7 hours upward.
Keep in Mind
The SNCF train to Paris sells out fast on days when ships are in port. Buy tickets online weeks ahead, not at the station on the morning.
Safety & Comfort
Le Havre and Normandy are safe and straightforward for independent travelers. Paris requires standard big-city awareness, particularly on the metro.

Four of us split a taxi to the station (10 euros total!), grabbed the 8am to Paris, hit the Louvre and walked along the Seine. Brilliant day. The trick is leaving Paris no later than 3:30.
did honfleur instead of paris and honestly no regrets. harbor is gorgeous, had a long lunch, took the bus back with 20 mins to spare. so much less stressful than trying to squeeze paris into 4 hours
The SNCF ticket situation tripped us up a bit. We tried to buy at the station the morning of and the seats we wanted were gone. Ended up on a slower train that added 30 minutes. Book online ahead of time, it's easy enough and you save money.
We did Paris on our own and I was genuinely worried we would miss the ship. We left at 2:30 in the afternoon and still had an anxious taxi ride back to the dock. Everything worked out, but give yourself more time than you think you need on the return. The city itself was wonderful as always.
Went to Étretat for the cliffs instead of Paris. Took the bus, walked the trails above the arches, ate a crepe at a little place near the water. Nobody from my ship was there. Sometimes skipping the obvious choice is the right move...
