Tender or Docked?

Ships dock at Aqaba's Yarmouk Berth. The port is a working commercial facility; walking through it is not permitted, and transport to the city or onward to Petra requires a ship shuttle or organized vehicle from the terminal.

How to Get Into Town

Private taxi to Petra: ~75-100 JOD each way, 2 hours. The JETT tourist bus (30 JOD return) is cheaper but runs on a fixed schedule that may not match your ship's departure time.

Main Attractions

The Treasury (Al-Khazneh) emerging from the Siq gorge is the defining image, but seeing it properly takes a minimum of 3 hours on site, which is tight from Aqaba on a standard port call.

How Much Time You Need

A 10-hour call is the minimum for a Petra day trip, and even then the margin is uncomfortably thin. Wadi Rum is achievable on shorter calls.

Keep in Mind

Missing the ship is a documented reality at this port. The distance to Petra and the single return route leave almost no buffer for anything to go wrong.

Safety & Comfort

Jordan is one of the safer countries in the region for tourists, and Aqaba and Petra are both accustomed to international visitors.

Tips from Cruisers
